SUGAR COOKIES

3 cups all purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened (no substitutions)
1¼ cups sugar
2 large eggs
1¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Decorative frosting and colored sugars
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in medium bowl. Beat butter in mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then vanilla. Beat in dry ingredients until blended.
Divide dough into quarters. Roll one quarter 1/16 inch thick between 2 sheets of wax paper. Repeat with remaining dough. Stack on cookie sheet and refrigerate at least 4 hours or up to 24 hours.
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease 2 cookie sheets. Remove top sheet of wax paper from 1 dough quarter and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Transfer to prepared cookie sheets and bake 6 to 7 minutes, until edges are golden. Cool on wire racks.
Repeat with remaining dough, rerolling scraps. (If dough becomes too soft, return to refrigerator) Decorate as desired.
These are the best sugar cookies I’ve ever tasted! Enjoy!
